The Value of a Gift Basket

Who doesn’t love checking into your hotel room and there is a welcome gift at the door waiting for you? Whether you are traveling for a corporate meeting, or an out of town wedding, a welcome basket is always an affordable way to be, well, welcomed! As an event planner, I always recommend a welcome basket – it saves money for your guests, is a classy way to say thanks for traveling all the way here, and most importantly, won’t break your bank!

A good welcome basket has a number of things: a drink such as bottled water or flavored soda, sweet and salty snacks (this will keep your guests out of the mini bar and save their banks!), a magazine or book, gum or mints, and something that symbolizes your location. For example, if a group is traveling to Orange County, think of adding in seashell shaped cookies, create it with an Orange colored theme, or include some sunscreen, flip flops and lip balm and encourage your attendees to take a walk on the beach.

A gift basket (a reasonable one, remember our past blog on frivolous spending) is a perfect welcome amenity, celebration gift or thank you item. And of course, I have to give a shout out to Lambs & Ivy (http://www.lambsandivygiftbaskets.com/) – it’s a great family run business that creates one of a kind gift baskets based on what YOU need. Oh yes, and most importantly…they donate 5% of their profits to local charities…they are helping you to look like a great friend or employer, as well as making an impact on the community!
